Washing Out/of the mangrove swamp
Washing Out/of the mangrove swamp attempts to emulate the colors found in south Florida's mangrove swamps, particularly around Sebastian Inlet and the Indian River lagoon. This piece attempts to capture the movement of an incipient falling tide. Encaustic painting uses hot beeswax and damar resin mixed with pigments. This is a highly textured painting that uses both hot and cold wax painting applications to build up the surface, creating an intense and highly saturated picture plane.
